Enhancing Safety for Communities and Families

Town of Whitbourne Fire Department to Receive New Emergency Response Vehicle

The Provincial Government and the Town of Whitbourne are cost-sharing the purchase of a $63,000 emergency response vehicle. The Honourable Steve Kent, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador (FES-NL), was joined by the Honourable Felix Collins, Attorney General and MHA for Placentia - St. Mary’s, and made the announcement recently at the Town Hall in Whitbourne.

“The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador continues to provide equipment which is necessary for the safety and protection of residents across our province.  This cost-shared investment of $63,000 will allow the town to have a reliable emergency response vehicle which will better prepare them to respond to emergency situations.”
- The Honourable Steve Kent, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister Responsible for FES-NL

Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future contained $1.5 million for the purchase of new fire trucks and emergency response vehicles and $380,000 for new firefighting equipment.

“The Town of Whitbourne has a dedicated and well trained volunteer fire department which provides excellent service to the region, as well as along 70 kilometres of the Trans Canada Highway.  I am pleased with this funding which highlights the priority government places on the safety of residents in the province.”
- The Honourable Felix Collins, Attorney General and MHA for Placentia - St. Mary’s

The emergency response vehicle is cost-shared between the Provincial Government and the Town of Whitbourne at a 90/10 ratio.

“The Town of Whitbourne is very thankful for government’s timely response to replace our fire department’s emergency vehicle.  It will provide enhanced capabilities to carry the Jaws of Life and other equipment necessary in emergency situations”.
- Hilda Whelan, Mayor of Whitbourne

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is committed to supporting important social programs, strong communities and the health and well-being of children, families and seniors.
