Teaching Youth to Respect and Protect Natural Resources

Officers Promote Fish and Wildlife Enforcement as a Career to High School Students

Officers from the Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Division of the Department of Justice and Public Safety visited several schools recently to share information about the field of fish and wildlife enforcement, to encourage students to consider becoming an officer as a career choice and to generate interest in protecting the province’s natural resources.

“Our officers care deeply for the natural resources of this province, and I appreciate that they have offered to lend their valuable time to instill a sense of caring and responsibility for the resources of Newfoundland and Labrador with local youth. By speaking with students, the Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Division Officers are sharing their passion for their field of enforcement with a younger generation. The success of these recent visits will lead to more interaction with other schools in the future.

Officers from the St. John’s Detachment visited the St. Michael's Regional High School Career Fair on Bell Island on November 20, and officers from the Corner Brook Detachment visited Elwood Elementary in Deer Lake on December 5. The purpose of the visits was to talk with younger students about caring for Newfoundland and Labrador’s wildlife and environment. Reports from the officers who participated indicate that the students were very interested and asked plenty of questions about the Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Division.
