Statement from Minister of Justice and Public Safety on OHS Charges
The Honourable Judy Manning, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General, today issued the following statement in relation to charges laid against the Department of Justice and Public Safety under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. The charges stem from the drowning death of a Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Officer on the Northern Peninsula on February 21, 2013.
“The loss of Howard Lavers has had a deep impact on his family, friends and colleagues. He was a highly respected officer with the Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Division who was dedicated to protecting the province’s natural resources so that they could be enjoyed by his fellow Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. Howard’s death was a tragic incident that affected many.”

The Department of Justice and Public Safety will not be in a position to provide any further information or comment on this matter while the charges are being adjudicated in the courts.
