Investments in Fire Protection Increase Safety
District of Lewisporte Receives Funding for Fire Truck and Equipment
The Honourable Judy Manning, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador, has announced more than $228,000 for the purchase of a fire truck and firefighting equipment for several communities in the District of Lewisporte. Minister Manning was joined by the Honourable Wade Verge, Speaker of the House of Assembly (Acting) and MHA for Lewisporte, at the Lewisporte Firefighters’ Banquet yesterday evening to make the announcement.
“Investments in fire trucks and fire equipment are integral to ensuring
the protection and safety of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. This funding for
the District of Lewisporte is a demonstration of our government’s continued
commitment to investing in firefighters and supplying them with the necessary
tools to do their jobs.

Through the funding, almost $200,000 will be used for the purchase of a new pumper fire truck in the Town of Lewisporte. The vehicle will be cost-shared with the town, with the Provincial Government providing 80 per cent of cost and the town providing the rest.
“The work done by volunteer firefighters is of vital importance to the
people of our province. I am pleased to see this important investment in the
District of Lewisporte. The equipment purchased will greatly enhance the ability
of our firefighters to provide quality service to their respective
communities.”

In addition, funding will be used to purchase a total of nine sets of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Boyd’s Cove, Campbellton, Embree, and Little Burnt Bay; two Self Contained Breathing Apparatuses (SCBAs) for Norris Arm; and a pump for Comfort Cove-Newstead. This equipment will be cost-shared with each community, and the Provincial Government is providing 90 per cent. The communities are covering the remaining 10 per cent.
