Enhancing Safety and Fire Protection for Residents
Minister Announces $29,000 for Fire Equipment in the District of St. George’s - Stephenville East
The Honourable Judy Manning, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador, announced today that approximately $29,000 is being invested to improve firefighting capacity for two communities in the District of St. George’s - Stephenville East.
“Making sure our firefighters have the equipment they need to do this critical work is a priority for the new Department of Justice and Public Safety. This investment of $29,000 will be used to purchase personal protection and communication equipment for firefighters in Upper Ferry and Bay St. George South.”

The funding will be used to purchase a paging system and three Self Contained Breathing Apparatuses (SCBAs) for Upper Ferry, and two cylinders and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Bay St. George South.
The equipment for each community will be cost-shared, with the Provincial Government providing 90 per cent and communities covering the remaining 10 per cent. Detailed information on these investments is contained in the backgrounder below.
