$202,818 Investment Encourages Ocean Technology Entrepreneurship

The Genesis Centre is better positioned to promote the growing ocean technology sector through an investment of $202,818 from the Provincial Government. With the goal of recruiting and fostering ocean technology companies in Newfoundland and Labrador, the Genesis Centre will undertake a strategic and targeted promotion of the province’s ocean technology sector.

“Improving the support and development services for the province’s ocean technology sector is an important goal for the Provincial Government. I am pleased that this investment of $202,818 will ensure that the necessary programs and resources for start-up firms will be in place to fully encourage and support their opportunity for long-term success.”
- The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Innovation, Business and Rural Development

The Genesis Centre will undertake a dynamic promotional campaign to encourage awareness of opportunities in ocean technology entrepreneurship. By promoting the benefits of entrepreneurship in the sector to students and academics, the centre is seeking to raise awareness of ocean technology programs and of the success stories happening throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. The Genesis Centre is also seeking to target ocean technology entrepreneurs and encourage them to use the centre’s business support services.

“The Genesis Centre is a driver of entrepreneurial growth, and the support of the Department of Innovation, Business and Rural Development is enormously helpful in carrying out its incubation of ocean technology companies. Although there are exciting opportunities for technology start-ups in diverse sectors, ocean technology is a natural fit for this province, given the wealth of local experience and infrastructure in that field. In fact, five very promising ocean technology companies currently represent about half of Genesis’ clients.”
- Dr. Gary Kachanoski, President and Vice Chancellor, Memorial University of Newfoundland.

The Genesis Centre is a support network for technology-based ventures with high growth potential that are also seeking business guidance and capital. The centre offers a complement of resources which increase the company's likelihood, rate and degree of success.
