Strategic Investments Strengthen Recreational Opportunities in Labrador

Province Invests $95,000 in World-Class Endurance Race

Cain’s Quest endurance snowmobile race concluded another successful and challenging season this past weekend with the support of Provincial Government funding totalling $95,000.

“Winter tourism, and in particular snowmobiling, is synonymous with economic and business development, especially in rural communities with a wealth of outdoor space and natural vistas. Since its inception in 2006, Cain’s Quest has experienced substantial growth in terms of participants, spectators, and media interest. The increase in the race’s popularity has had a tremendous impact on the local business community, and I am pleased that the Provincial Government’s investment of $95,000 helped make this year’s race a success.”
- The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Innovation, Business and Rural Development and Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation

This year’s race included 29 teams that competed for a $100,000 prize and the title of 2014 Cain’s Quest Champion. Starting on March 1, the race covered a distance of over 3,300 kilometres through the harsh elements and varying terrain of Labrador.

“Cain’s Quest is a world-class event that showcases Labrador to the country and to the world. Over the years, it has grown to attract highly-skilled snowmobilers who want to test their skills and endurance. The event’s success has been made possible by the many community partners and volunteers who are to be commended for their ongoing efforts.”
- The Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister Responsible for Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs and MHA for Labrador West

Established in 2006, Cain’s Quest has grown to attract teams from across Canada and the United States and has attracted millions of viewers on their website from more than 70 countries around the world. Additional information on the race can be found on the website: www.cainsquest.com.

Through sound fiscal management and responsible decisions, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is strengthening the business environment, encouraging the development of innovative industries and building a vibrant economy.
