Enhancements to Health Care Services Support Strong Communities

Investments Announced for Health Centres in Twillingate and Fogo Island

Health centres in Twillingate and Fogo Island will receive $538,000 in funding for infrastructure upgrades and new x-ray equipment.

The Fogo Island Health Centre will receive $150,000 to purchase a new computed radiography reader – a piece of equipment which is used to capture, store and transmit high quality x-ray images.

An investment of $263,000 in the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre in Twillingate will fund the purchase of waiting room chairs, a rehab exercise machine, food services equipment for the cafeteria, exam tables for outpatients and a computed radiography reader used in diagnostic imaging.

The Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre will receive $125,000 to replace 16 exterior doors and the concrete around the main entrance and emergency areas of the centre. These upgrades are designed to enhance patient, visitor, and employee safety at the facility.

Since 2004, the Provincial Government has invested nearly $1.5 billion in health care infrastructure in Newfoundland and Labrador. Budget 2014: Shared Prosperity, Fair Society, Balanced Outlook allocates a total investment of over $189 million in infrastructure, which includes $119 million for continuing construction and redevelopment, $50.5 million for new equipment and $20 million for repairs and renovations.
