Improved Health Infrastructure Strengthens Services for Families and Communities

Over $1.2 Million Invested in Health Care Facilities in Stephenville Region

Residents served by the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre and Stephenville Rehabilitation Annex will benefit from over $1.2 million in medical equipment and upgrades for the facilities.

“These three health care centres provide significant services to residents throughout the Stephenville region ranging from acute and primary to long-term care. To ensure that we continue to provide essential and accessible services, it is important that we maintain these facilities. Our investment of over $1.2 million will see new and replacement equipment and upgrades to medical imaging devices. In addition, there will be enhancements to patient comfort and safety through the replacement of beds, and specialized chairs for long-term care patients.

At Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, $689,700 will provide new medical scopes for endoscopic and urology procedures and upgrade the medical imaging CT scanner to improve image capturing speed, data and storage. In addition, other various pieces of equipment will be funded including geriatric chairs and beds that help reduce falls and improve patient safety.

The Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre will receive $463,000 to replace geriatric chairs to improve patient safety and comfort, to upgrade tub stretchers and chairs for easier and safer patient access to baths, to replace patient beds and room furniture and to complete installation of air conditioning for the facility.

The Stephenville Rehabilitation Annex will receive $52,000 to replace two pieces of hearing testing equipment used in audiology examinations.

Since 2004, the Provincial Government has invested nearly $1.5 billion in health care infrastructure. Budget 2014: Shared Prosperity, Fair Society, Balanced Outlook, includes a total investment of over $189 million in infrastructure, which includes $119 million for continuing construction and redevelopment, $50.5 million for new equipment and $20 million for repairs and renovations.
