Youth Treatment Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor Nearing Completion
The new treatment centre in Grand Falls-Windsor for youth with addictions is nearing completion. The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Health and Community Services, toured the $12.5 million facility, receiving an update on its progress, future programming and the positive impact it will have on addictions services in the province.
“Mental health and addictions are very complex issues that our government has been dealing with head-on. With the completion of the new treatment centre for youth with addictions, we will offer services within Newfoundland and Labrador that have previously only been available in other provinces. What we are building is more than just a treatment centre, it is a therapeutic environment for young people to heal, close to their families and communities.”
- The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Health and Community Services
Construction of the youth treatment centre has been completed and the building turned over to Central Health. The health authority is now in the process of equipping the facility, moving in furnishings and training health professionals and nurses. The facility is expected to be open in May.
"In this region we have certainly seen the growing need for mental health services, including addictions treatment. We are pleased to partner with the Department of Health and Community Services to provide programs and services to youth, with the hope that the assistance they receive here will lead them to a better and brighter future."
- Rosemarie Goodyear, President and Chief Executive Officer, Central Health
The treatment centre will provide services for up to 12 residents under 18 years old who require addictions treatment. The layout of the facility includes three separate living quarters containing four bedrooms with private bathrooms, a kitchen and lounge area, educational space, multipurpose room, physical fitness room and a dedicated space for overnight stays for visiting family.
