$1.5 million Invested for Continued Redevelopment of James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre
Residents of Gander and surrounding communities will benefit from $1.5 million allocated in Budget 2014: Shared Prosperity, Fair Society, Balanced Outlook for the continued redevelopment of the James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre. This funding will initiate phase one of a $16 million four-year project that will ensure the longevity of the facility for current and future generations.
“Health care facilities are an integral part of our communities, our
families and our entire province. This year’s investment of $1.5 million in
the James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre will ensure that this
facility will continue to meet the needs of this region for many years to
come. Our government has placed great emphasis on developing new and
maintaining current health care infrastructure. This focus benefits
patients, health care workers and Newfoundland and Labrador.”
- The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Health and Community
Services
The $16 million redevelopment project will begin this year with work to renovate space within the hospital to accommodate eight beds which will provide swing space for the next phases of the project. This includes mechanical and engineering upgrades including new air handling units.
“I am very pleased to see this investment in the James Paton Memorial
Regional Health Centre. This facility has serviced the people of Gander and
the surrounding communities for many years. Through this year’s funding and
the four-year commitment to this redevelopment project, it will continue to
provide exceptional health care services to our families, communities and
the entire region.”
- The Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills
and MHA for Gander
Future phases of the redevelopment work at the health centre include renovations to the obstetrics and gynecology area, the inpatient and medicine wing, ambulatory care clinic and other clinics.
“We are very pleased by the Provincial Government’s continued
investment in James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre. We are now able
to move forward with important renovations as well as engineering and
planning work that will lay the foundation for future renovations to
inpatient and outpatient areas. Renovating our facilities allows us to
modernize our spaces and therefore contributes to our goal of providing safe
patient care.”
- John Kattenbusch, Vice President of Finance and Infrastructure, Central
Health
