Backgrounder
Providing Significant
Infrastructure Investments
Investing in Quality Health Infrastructure
Budget 2014 includes a total investment of over $189 million in
infrastructure, which includes $119 million for continuing construction and
redevelopment, $50.5 million for new equipment and $20 million for repairs
and renovations.
Funding will be provided through Budget 2014 for continued infrastructure
projects, which include:
- $15 million to
continue design and program planning for the new Corner Brook hospital;
- $14.5 million for
the new PET scanner at the Health Sciences Centre;
- $13.3 million to
complete construction of the Labrador West Health Centre;
- $10 million to
advance the planning and design of a new psychiatric hospital in St.
John’s;
- $7 million for the
development of the new adult addictions centre in Harbour Grace;
- $5.5 million for
the development of a new electrical substation to service the Health
Sciences Centre/Memorial University of Newfoundland campus, as well as
upgrades of the Emergency Power Generating System;
- $3.9 million for
the continued redevelopment of the Central Newfoundland Regional Health
Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor, including the redevelopment of the
endoscopy suite;
- $2 million to
advance the design of the new Green Bay Health Centre;
- $1.6 million to
complete construction of the treatment centre for youth with complex
mental health needs in Paradise;
- $1.5 million for
the continued redevelopment of the James Paton Memorial Hospital in
Gander;
- $1 million to
begin redevelopment of the medical equipment cleaning and sterilization
areas of the Health Sciences Centre and St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital;
- $650,000 for the
completion of a new health clinic in Marystown North;
- $500,000 for the
completion of the Craig L. Dobbin Genetics Research Centre;
- $500,000 for the
completion of the expansion of the Faculty of Medicine;
- $500,000 to begin
planning for the redevelopment of the labs at the Central Newfoundland
Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor;
- $500,000 to begin
planning of a redevelopment of the Bonavista Health Centre;
- $500,000 to
advance planning for the development of two new cancer operating room
suites at the Health Sciences Centre and St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital;
- $500,000 to begin
upgrading operating room suites at both the Health Sciences Centre and
St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital; and,
- $50,000 to
complete construction of the treatment centre for youth with addictions
in Grand Falls-Windsor.
