Public Engagement Supports Economic Development

Provincial Aquaculture Consultations Feedback Summary Released Today

The Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, today announced the release of a “What We Heard” document that summarizes feedback received through recent aquaculture consultations. A total of 122 participants provided feedback during the consultation process, either through online submissions, or in sessions involving representatives from industry, academia, non-governmental organizations, Aboriginal organizations, and municipalities.

“On behalf of the Provincial Government, I want to thank everyone who took the time to provide valuable feedback that will inform future initiatives to support a successful and sustainable aquaculture industry. The industry has grown to become a major employer in rural areas and a key driver of the provincial economy. Feedback from this process will help continue that success by identifying areas of improvement and supporting the pursuit of best practices.”
- The Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture

The “What We Heard” document can be viewed by visiting www.fishaq.gov.nl.ca. All feedback received through the consultation process will be used to update the Provincial Government’s aquaculture strategic plan, which will guide future policy and investment decisions aimed at fostering the success of the industry. The updated plan, Vision 2018, will be finalized this year.

Through sound fiscal management and responsible decisions, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is strengthening the business environment, encouraging the development of innovative industries, and building a vibrant economy.
