Successful Collective Bargaining Continues

Provincial Government Reaches Tentative Agreement with Nurses

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has reached a tentative collective agreement with the Newfoundland and Labrador Nurses’ Union (NLNU).

“I am very pleased we have reached a successful tentative collective agreement with the registered nurses of our province. This agreement is a testament to the diligent work of the negotiating teams, and the commitment on both sides to reaching a fair deal which recognizes the valuable work of registered nurses in a fiscally responsible way.”
- The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board

The NLNU represents approximately 5,700 registered nurses across the province.

The agreement shares the same framework as that reached with other public sector unions, including a five per cent salary increase over the term of the agreement and a one-time pro-rated payment of $1,400.

The Provincial Government has successfully negotiated collective agreements in the past year with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Association, NAPE, CUPE, and the Association of Allied Health Professionals. These agreements, in addition to the tentative agreement with the NLNU, represent approximately 27,700 public employees, and demonstrate Provincial Government’s commitment to successful collective bargaining.
