Dental Health Programs Benefiting Families and Communities

Provincial Government and Dentists Reach Tentative Agreements on Adult and Child Dental Health Programs

The Provincial Government has reached a new memorandum of agreement with the Newfoundland and Labrador Dental Association (NLDA), covering the adult dental health programs which provide dental services to low income adults and seniors. A memorandum of agreement has also been renewed for the provision of the Children’s Dental Health Program.

“Our government is committed to ensuring everyone in our province shares in prosperity, and that the lives of all families are bettered by Newfoundland and Labrador’s economic success. The provincial dental programs are an example of this commitment, and I am pleased we are continuing this successful partnership with dentists in the provision of these programs.”
- The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board

Under both four-year memorandums of agreement, effective April 1, 2014, the Provincial Government will cover 90 per cent on average of the current NLDA fee schedule, with further increases of two per cent April 1, 2016, and three per cent April 1 2017.

“I am very pleased that we have reached this agreement with the Newfoundland and Labrador Dental Association. We value and appreciate the role that dentists play in the provision of oral health services. This agreement is a result of a collaborative approach and shared interest in providing valuable health services to residents. I look forward to continuing to work with the NLDA and their membership.”
- The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Health and Community Services

The Adult Dental Program, the Low Income (Access) Program, and the Income Support Program, provide eligible services to youth, adults and seniors with low incomes. The Children’s Dental Health Program provides universal access to eligible dental care to children aged 12 and under.
