Providing Effective Services Through Responsible Decisions
Provincial Government Reaches Tentative Agreement
The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE) has reached a tentative four-year agreement with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, representing approximately 265 correctional officers and employees of correctional facilities.
“This tentative agreement is in keeping with our government’s commitment to fiscal responsibility, while also recognizing our valued public employees. I am pleased to see that the needs of both the employer and employee were met through the collective bargaining process.”
- The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board
The tentative agreement shares the same framework as that reached with other NAPE groups, the Canadian Union of Public Employees, and the Association of Allied Health Professionals. This includes a five per cent salary increase over the term of the agreement. It consists of zero per cent salary increase in years one and two of the agreement, two per cent in year three and three per cent in year four. In addition, employees will receive a one-time pro-rated payment of $1,400.
“Correctional officers perform a valuable service on behalf of residents of the province in an oftentimes challenging environment. Successfully reaching a tentative collective agreement that is fair for both sides is positive news indeed.”
- The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Justice
Through sound fiscal management and responsible decisions, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is strengthening the business environment, encouraging the development of innovative industries, and building a vibrant economy.
