Provincial Government Seeking Applications for Regional Councils and Youth Advisory Committee

The Honourable Steve Kent, Deputy Premier and Minister Responsible for the Office of Public Engagement, is seeking expressions of interest from individuals who would like to serve on the nine Regional Councils and the Newfoundland and Labrador Youth Advisory Committee, both supported by the Office of Public Engagement.

“Individuals selected for the Regional Councils and the Youth Advisory Committee will help shape enterprising and innovative communities and continue to build the province as a great place to live, to work, and to grow. They will actively participate in meaningful discussions, keep current on youth issues and council-related work, and share their valuable input and ideas with government.”
- The Honourable Steve Kent, Minister Responsible for the Office of Public Engagement

The nine Regional Councils advise the Provincial Government on matters related to the development of their regions. Council membership comprises individuals with economic and social development backgrounds. In the expression of interest process, consideration will be given to gender, age, business, labour, social, cultural and environmental perspectives. Terms are for two years, with the potential for an extension.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Youth Advisory Committee provides a forum to advise the Minister Responsible for the Office of Public Engagement on government's youth-related programs and policies. Terms are for two years and applications from high school students aged 16 and over, post-secondary students, and youth in the workforce are being sought.

Applications for the Regional Councils and the Youth Advisory Committee are available online at www.ope.gov.nl.ca, by calling 1-877-895-8891 (toll-free), or by emailing, ope@gov.nl.ca. Applications will be accepted until December 19, 2014.
