National Philanthropy Day Encourages Giving Back to the Community

The Provincial Government is joining community organizations throughout North America in recognizing tomorrow, November 15, as National Philanthropy Day. Celebrated each year, the day honours fundraising professionals who are changing lives and improving communities through their contributions of time, energy and resources.

Kevin Pollard, Parliamentary Secretary to the Honourable Steve Kent, Deputy Premier and Minister Responsible for the Office of Public Engagement, participated in the Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals annual awards luncheon today. The event was held at the Capital Hotel in St. John’s.

“In this province, we depend on over 3,600 community organizations to deliver services, provide care and support, and generally improve the lives of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians everywhere. National Philanthropy Day is a time to recognize the thousands of women and men who provide solid leadership to these organizations as they carry out their fundraising activities.”

The award for Outstanding Philanthropist – Corporate was presented to Vale and the Resource Development Trades Council of Newfoundland and Labrador. The TD Kids Eat Smart Walk to Breakfast was presented with the award for Outstanding Special Event.

“Newfoundlanders and Labradorians place great value on philanthropy and the work of fundraising professionals such as those we are recognizing today. We are proud to honour the achievements of not only the hardworking professionals in the charitable sector, but also those who recognize the importance of giving back to their community and the impact that generosity can have today and well into the future.”
