Building Modern Learning Communities

Tender Called for New School in Paradise

A tender has been called to begin construction of a new school in Paradise to accommodate students in kindergarten to Grade 6.

“The new school in Paradise will be a welcome addition to meet the needs of the growing population in the town, and I am pleased that we are moving forward to begin the construction phase of the project. Our governments investments in school infrastructure over the past 11 years is unprecedented, demonstrating our commitment to providing safe and modern learning environments for our children. The new school is building on previous investments in Paradise, which support community development, families and children, providing benefits to each for years to come.”
- The Honourable Paul Davis, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and MHA, Topsail

The new school will be a two-storey facility built to accommodate approximately 700 students. It will be constructed near Octagon Pond and will include 36 classrooms, a dividable gymnasium, stage, learning resource centre, two music rooms, lunch/multi-purpose room, commercial kitchen, playground, and soccer field, among other spaces.

“This government continues to make investments in school infrastructure that are unprecedented in the province’s history. We also recognize the importance of leading by example with respect to improving energy efficiency. That’s why the new school will be designed in accordance with the Provincial Energy Plan and will follow the LEED green building rating system. With planning complete, I am pleased and excited to see this project move forward.”
- The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) credits incorporate new, environmentally-friendly initiatives that enhance both the learning environment and landscape of the entire area. The school will be fully ventilated with air conditioning available in specific locations. A highly efficient ground sourced terminal heat pump HVAC system is included in the design, as well as energy efficient lighting to maximize LEED credits.

“New school developments and renovations of existing schools to better support the needs of students and the larger school community are priorities of our government. These are exciting developments that contribute to the social and economic well-being of communities. We look forward to working with our partners in education and industry to build a school in Paradise that meets the community’s long-term needs.”
- The Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Transportation and Works
