Public Sector Employees Benefit from Successful Bargaining
Teachers Ratify Collective Agreement With Provincial Government
The Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association (NLTA), which represents 6,000 teachers across the province, has ratified the collective agreement reached with the Provincial Government in July.
“I am pleased that teachers have accepted the tentative agreement which includes salary increases and other provisions for a four-year period. This deal recognizes the important contribution teachers make in the education system and it is a responsible deal made on behalf of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.”
- The Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board
The agreement shares the same framework as that reached with other public sector unions including a five per cent salary increase over the term of the agreement and a one-time pro-rated payment of $1,400. It also includes provisions for three days of non-discretionary family leave, which is in keeping with similar benefits of other public sector employees.
