Premier Offers Condolences on Passing of Freida Faour
The Honourable Tom Marshall, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador today expressed condolences to the family and friends of Freida Faour.
“It was with a very heavy heart that I learned on Saturday that Freida had passed away. To her entire family and friends, on behalf of my own family and our entire province, I extend my deepest sympathies.”
- The Honourable Tom Marshall, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador
Mrs. Faour was a leader in municipal government in the City of Corner Brook, and a champion of the environment as founder of the Humber Arm Environmental Association. Her environmental work was recognized by the establishment of the Freida Faour Environmental Scholarship for university students pursuing careers in Environmental Studies. Mrs. Faour was active in the music community in Corner Brook, as a member and director of her church choir, a music education teacher in the school system and a piano and voice teacher. Her extensive professional and volunteer endeavours afforded Mrs. Faour this province’s highest recognition when she was inducted into the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador in 2012.
“What an incredible human being Freida was, and what an enduring legacy she has left to all of us. She was a tour-de-force as a wife, mother, city councillor, teacher and volunteer. She was involved in practically everything and brought a virtually inexhaustible reservoir of talent, energy and compassion to her many pursuits. On behalf of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Faour family and to all who knew and loved Freida.”
- Premier Marshall
