Premier Announces Senior Appointment

The Honourable Tom Marshall, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today announced the appointment of Tom Lawrence as Interim CEO of the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation.

“Mr. Lawrence has demonstrated strong leadership during his career with the Provincial Government. I am confident his extensive knowledge and valuable experience will serve him well as he takes on this interim role.”

Mr. Lawrence assumes the position from Len Simms, who recently announced his retirement having served many years with the public service, nine of them as CEO of Newfoundland and Labrador Housing.

“Mr. Simms has been dedicated to serving the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. I thank him for his tremendous contributions to our province and wish him well in his retirement.”

Mr. Lawrence’s appointment is effective Monday, September 1.

BACKGROUNDER
Biographical Information

Tom Lawrence
Tom Lawrence, a native of Carbonear, has held positions of progressive responsibility since beginning his career with Newfoundland and Labrador Housing in 1981 and has served as Chief Financial Officer since 2004. Mr. Lawrence holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a Certified Management Accountant designation and is a past Director of the NL Board of Directors of Internal Auditors. In 2005, he was awarded the Fellow of the Society of Management Accountants of Canada. Mr. Lawrence is a member of the Board of Directors of the Public Service Credit Union, is a long-standing member of the Masonic Fraternity and served as a member of the National Board of Directors for CMA Canada in 1992-1993. He lives in the Town of Conception Bay South.
