Supporting and Engaging Youth

Provincial Government Invests $744,000 to Support Organizations That Help Youth Succeed

Thirty-nine organizations supporting engagement activities and learning opportunities for young people across Newfoundland and Labrador will receive approximately $744,000 in funding from the Provincial Government. The Honourable Steve Kent, Minister Responsible for the Office of Public Engagement, announced the recipients of Grants to Youth Organizations today.

“This year, thousands of young women and men throughout Newfoundland and Labrador will participate in programming made possible by the Grants to Youth Organizations program. These organizations are helping to ensure young people are provided with meaningful opportunities that encourage training, mentorship and professional development. From promoting youth leadership to helping at-risk youth and low income families become full participants in our prosperity, these grants are enriching our communities and province for the next generation.”
- The Honourable Steve Kent, Minister Responsible for the Office of Public Engagement

Funding was made available through the 2014 Grants to Youth Organizations program, administered by the Office of Public Engagement. Grants will support organizations that engage youth in areas such as self-reliance, leadership and citizen development, that provide funding for a specific service or event, and that develop and deliver new or existing organizational programs.

With a grant of $35,000 for programming costs and events, Allied Youth Newfoundland and Labrador is one of the 39 organizations receiving funding today.

“For 51 years, Allied Youth Newfoundland and Labrador has helped junior high and high school students develop their talents and leadership skills through youth-led initiatives. Through the program, members learn about the issues they face on a day-to-day basis and take that knowledge to educate their schools and communities, empowering them to improve their environments while becoming the leaders of today. Allied Youth Newfoundland and Labrador continues to thrive thanks to the consistent support provided by the Provincial Government.”
- Cara Eustace, Chairperson, Allied Youth Newfoundland and Labrador
