Strengthening Communities Through Fire Safety Investments

Funding Announced for New Fire Truck in Pasadena

The safety of residents in Newfoundland and Labrador is paramount, and access to firefighting vehicles and equipment ensures that firefighters are ready to respond in times of need. Recognizing this, the Honourable Tom Marshall, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, was joined by town officials and volunteers at the fire hall in the Town of Pasadena today to announce a new pumper truck for the community.

“Today we mark an important occasion for firefighters and residents in my district of Humber East with the announcement of a new $262,000 rescue pumper truck which will be cost-shared between the Provincial Government and the Town of Pasadena. Our government places great importance on providing financial support to fire departments and emergency first responders. This particular vehicle will boost capability for the fire department and will enhance public safety across the region.”
- The Honourable Tom Marshall, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador

Budget 2014: Shared Prosperity, Fair Society, Balanced Outlook, provides $5 million for the purchase of fire equipment and vehicles for communities throughout the province.

“Fire protection is an essential service to residents throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. Over the last number of years, our government has invested heavily in fire equipment and new emergency response vehicles. In fact, from 2003 to 2013, the Provincial Government committed more than $19 million in new fire equipment emergency response vehicles.  Each expenditure is evidence of the importance our government places on public safety and fire service.”
- The Honourable Steve Kent, Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services - Newfoundland and Labrador

The pumper truck is a four-door, 1,050 gallon per minute vehicle, with Class A foam capability.  It also has the ability to carry vehicle extrication equipment. The vehicle will be cost-shared with the Provincial Government providing 80 per cent of funding and the municipality covering 20 per cent and is expected to be delivered by the spring of 2015.
