$261,000 Announced for New Fire Vehicle in Town of Stephenville Crossing

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is committed to building safe communities and supporting the provision of modern firefighting services. To support this, the Honourable Tom Marshall, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, joined town officials and volunteers at the fire hall in the Town of Stephenville Crossing to announce a new pumper truck for the community.

Through an investment of $261,000 cost-shared between the Provincial Government and the Town of Stephenville Crossing, we are funding the purchase of a new, modern pumper truck. This vehicle will become the centrepiece of fire services in the community, and will enhance fire protection for years to come.”

Budget 2014: Shared Prosperity, Fair Society, Balanced Outlook, provides $5 million for the purchase of fire equipment and vehicles for communities throughout the province.

“As demonstrated through Budget 2014, fire protection is a very important area of investment and a top priority for the Provincial Government. The investment announced today will contribute significantly to the continued protection of the residents of Stephenville Crossing. We are proud of the work and dedication of our volunteer firefighters across the province, and we will continue to support them through the work of Fire and Emergency Services - NL."

The pumper truck is a four-door, 1,050 gallon per minute truck, with Class A foam capability, and is expected to be delivered by the spring of 2015.

QUICK FACTS:

  • The Provincial Government and the Town of Stephenville Crossing are investing approximately $261,000 in cost-shared funding for the purchase of a new pumper truck to support fire protection services in the community.
  • The Provincial Government is providing 90 per cent of funding and the municipality is covering the remaining 10 per cent.
  • Through Budget 2014, over $5 million is being invested to support fire services, equipment and vehicles across the province.
  • From 2003 to 2013, the Provincial Government contributed to the purchase of 125 emergency response vehicles for communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
