Government Delivering on Fire Safety for Communities

New Fire Truck Announced to Support Fire Services in the Town of Kippens

The Provincial Government is committed to the 5,900 volunteer firefighters who are delivering essential safety services to residents across Newfoundland and Labrador. To support this work, the Honourable Tom Marshall, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, together with Tony Cornect, MHA for Port au Port, joined firefighters and officials from the Town of Kippens to announce a new pumper truck for the community.

“Fire protection and emergency services are vital to ensure that our residents and their property are kept safe and secure. Through this $261,000 investment, which is being cost-shared between the Provincial Government and the Town of Kippens, we will be delivering a modern firefighting vehicle which will serve this community for years to come. This truck is the first announcement resulting from an investment of over $5 million in vehicles and equipment, through Budget 2014."

Budget 2014: Shared Prosperity, Fair Society, Balanced Outlook includes $5 million in vehicle and equipment funding, which is the largest investment ever made in this area.

“Ensuring that our firefighters have access to the equipment, training and facilities that they require is a top priority for this government, and is evidenced by this new vehicle announcement for the Town of Kippens. We will continue to work with communities across the province to ensure that we maintain the most modern fleet of firefighting vehicles possible.”
- The Honourable Steve Kent, Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services - Newfoundland and Labrador

The pumper truck will be cost-shared with the Provincial Government providing 90 per cent of funding and the municipality covering 10 per cent. The vehicle will be a four-door, 1,050 gallon per minute truck, with Class A foam capability.

“Investments such as this make a very big difference in the lives of the volunteers who are there for our residents during times of need. I applaud the work of council and the fire department in the Town of Kippens for their efforts and dedication which have made today's announcement possible.”
