The following is being distributed at the request of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Review Committee:

ATIPPA Review Committee Office Opens

The ATIPPA Review Committee is pleased to announce that its office at 83 Thorburn Road is now open to the public.

The Review Committee was recently established by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to conduct an independent statutory review of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (ATIPPA), including an examination of the amendments made through Bill 29.

In recent weeks, the Committee published a notice in provincial papers and other media seeking expressions of interest from individuals and groups who may wish to offer their ideas and views on the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, including recent changes made by Bill 29.

The Committee members, Clyde Wells, Jennifer Stoddart and Doug Letto, are encouraging stakeholders, including the general public, media, politicians, government departments, agencies, boards, commissions, crown corporations, educational bodies, regional health authorities, municipalities, statutory offices, professional and volunteer associations, business organizations, legal professionals, and people in academia to notify the committee of their interest in making a future presentation. The Committee will use that information to decide when and where to hold various types of public discussion, including the holding of public hearings.

The Committee members have asked all interested to indicate their interest in presenting their views by contacting the Review Committee by May 12 if at all possible. The Review Committee needs the information in order to plan efficiently for any required public hearings. You may contact the Review Committee by writing to us at 83 Thorburn Road (Suite C), St. John’s, NL, A1B 3M2, by telephoning 709-729-2605 (toll free 1-844-729-2605) or sending an e-mail to info@parcnl.ca.
