Premier Expresses Condolences on Passing of Province’s Oldest Resident
The Honourable Tom Marshall, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today expressed condolences to the family and friends of Mrs. Margaret Moores of Rushoon, who passed away on Saturday evening. Mrs. Moores held the distinction of being the oldest resident in the province.
“At 108, Mrs. Moores was our oldest resident and a treasure of knowledge and local history for people on the Burin Peninsula,” said Premier Marshall. “To have attained such an age, surrounded by loved ones and a community of support, is an accomplishment few in the world achieve.”
Mrs. Moores, who was born in 1905, was known as ‘Aunt Maggie’ to residents of Rushoon.
“On behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and all the people of the province, I extend our heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Moores’ family and friends and to all who called her “Aunt Maggie,’” said Premier Marshall.
