Supporting and Engaging Youth

Call Issued for 2014 Applications for Grants to Youth Organizations

The Provincial Government announced today that applications are now being accepted for 2014 Grants to Youth Organizations.

“Our young people are the future of Newfoundland and Labrador. By investing in youth-based organizations which provide important tools and learning opportunities for young people, we are working together to ensure the next generation of residents have the supports, skills, and confidence they need to become leaders in their communities.”
- The Honourable Steve Kent, Minister Responsible for the Office of Public Engagement

Each year, Grants to Youth Organizations offer a broad range of youth-based initiatives to youth centres and leadership organizations which help young people focus on self-reliance, leadership and citizen development.

There are two types of grants available: special project grants that provide funding for the provision of a specific service or event; and program grants which make a contribution to support the development/delivery of new or existing organizational programs. Regardless of type, applications will be assessed based upon the purpose and structure of a program or activity, the degree to which the effort will effectively engage youth, and the likelihood that an initiative will address a gap in a community service.

“For over 65 years, the Boys and Girls Clubs of St. John’s have strengthened our community by providing children and youth with positive adult role models, recreational activities and the experiences that foster a sense of belonging, pride and community involvement. With the help of Grants to Youth Organizations, we can ensure that the opportunities we offer for children, youth, and their families continue – particularly for children who are most at risk.”
- Melissa Slaney-Rose, Resource Development Coordinator, Boys and Girls Clubs of St. John’s
