Public Advisory: Air Foodlift Subsidy Implemented for South Coast-Straits of Labrador

Extreme ice conditions have forced an interruption in marine service for the Strait of Belle Isle and as such the Provincial Government has implemented the Air Foodlift Subsidy Program (AFS) for the South Coast-Straits of Labrador.

AFS policy states that if for some reason (inclement weather or mechanical failure) there is a stoppage of scheduled crossings of a marine vessel for an extended period of time, retailers in these communities would be eligible to participate in the AFS program. Effective today (Wednesday, March 19), retailers on the South Coast-Straits of Labrador are eligible to take part in the program. The AFS program will remain in effect for five days after regular scheduled marine service returns.

For retailers seeking further information, please contact the Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs Office, Program Coordinator, Jeannine Chaulk at 709-896-1780.
