Engaging Young People Helps Build a Vibrant Province

Nominations Open for 2014 URock Volunteer Awards

With nominations now open for the 2014 URock Volunteer Awards, the Provincial Government is encouraging all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to acknowledge outstanding contributions of the province’s youth.

“The URock Volunteer Awards help recognize the work of young volunteers across Newfoundland and Labrador and empower them so they can achieve their fullest potential. Whether it’s volunteering at a seniors’ home, fundraising, or helping out at a community centre, young people are working enthusiastically all year round and their contributions are generating lasting benefits for the people of the province.”
- The Honourable Steve Kent, Minister Responsible for the Office of Public Engagement

Nominations for the 2014 URock Awards are made in two categories: individuals and youth-led non-profit organizations. Individual nominees must have made outstanding voluntary contributions without reward or gain, be 30 years of age or under, and be a current or past resident of Newfoundland and Labrador. Organizations nominated must be youth-led groups which have made contributions without reward or gain, for the betterment of others.

All nominees, recipients and their families will be invited to attend the 2014 URock Volunteer Awards Show, a celebration which will honour exceptional contributions being made by young volunteers throughout the province. The show will be held at the Glacier in Mount Pearl on May 15 and include live performances by local bands. The eight award recipients will each receive a customized electric guitar to acknowledge the unique and creative ways young people volunteer.
