Premier Expresses Condolences on the Passing of Ambrose Peddle

Today, the Honourable Tom Marshall, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, honoured Ambrose Hubert Peddle, who passed away on Monday, March 10, at the age of 86.

“A native son of Corner Brook, Ambrose Peddle touched the lives of many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians over the years. A former businessman, Mr. Peddle led an admirable life in public service as Mayor of Windsor, as a Member of the House of Assembly, and as a Member of Parliament. To serve the people of this great province in public office is indeed a great privilege and responsibility and one he accepted with compassion and integrity. Mr. Peddle had the distinct honour of being appointed Newfoundland and Labrador’s first ombudsman by Premier Frank Moores in 1975. For 15 years, Mr. Peddle listened to the concerns of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians and worked diligently on their behalf to ensure they were treated fairly by government. On behalf of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador, I extend heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. Peddle. At this time of loss and grief, I hope his outstanding life and legacy will be a source of comfort and pride.”
