Supporting Equality for Women
Provincial Government Recognizes International Women’s Day
To highlight the progress of equality and access to opportunities for women, the Honourable Joan Shea, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, has proclaimed March 8 as International Women’s Day.
“Advancing the status of women and girls is a priority of the
Provincial Government. We will continue working with community partners,
providing networking opportunities, and developing programs targeted towards
the advancement, personal growth and empowerment of all women.”
- Honourable Joan Shea, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women
The Provincial Government continues to address key issues that affect women through the development and delivery of programs and initiatives that promote their safety and well-being. This commitment is demonstrated through government’s continued funding for Women’s Centres, the Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of Women, the Violence Prevention Initiative, and by promoting women through programs such as Ovations that recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of women leaders.
“With the success of Ovations, we continue to reflect on the
achievements of the many women leaders in our province and commend their
accomplishments. We must continue to support and motivate one another and
encourage the growth, development and success of women and girls.”
- Linda Ross, President, Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of
Women
The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is committed to supporting important social programs, strong communities and the health and well-being of children, families and seniors.
