Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Argentia Access Road Mink Farm                         (Reg. 1772)
Proponent: Viking Fur Inc.

Viking Fur Inc. proposes to construct and operate a 165 hectare mink farm along the Argentia Access Road (Route 100), 10 kilometres south of the Trans Canada Highway. The farm will be developed in three phases from 5,000 female breeders in 2015 to 15,000 breeders in 2020. The undertaking will include land clearing and land renovation in the removal of stones, cultivation, fertilization and seeding. The farm development will include the construction of three mink sheds, a waste management system (manure and waste), feed storage, manure spreading and hay projection. Mink feed will be transported from the existing Viking Fur Inc. mink farm located in Cavendish, Newfoundland and Labrador. Pelting and composting of carcasses will also take place at the Cavendish location. Clearing of land and preparation of the site for construction is proposed to begin in the spring of 2015.

The undertaking was registered on November 20, 2014; the deadline for public comments is December 31, 2014; and the minister’s decision is due by January 3, 2015.

Fermeuse Offshore Marine Base                         (Reg. 1773)
Proponent: Fermeuse Enterprises Limited

The proponent has submitted an application for the development of an offshore marine base in Fermeuse Harbour, located in the Town of Fermeuse. The purpose of the undertaking is to service the offshore oil and gas industry in Newfoundland and Labrador. The completed facility will consist of 12 berths, a semi-submersible rig servicing quay, multiple laydown areas, crane and heavy lift capabilities and various site buildings for maintenance, administration and other related purposes. The total land area of the completed facility will be approximately 15.3 hectares. Construction is expected to commence in late summer/early fall 2015. The facility is expected to be in operation in late 2016 or early 2017.

The undertaking was registered on November 21, 2014; deadline for public comments is December 31, 2014; and the minister’s decision is due by January 8, 2015.

Proponent: D. Byrne and Sons Ltd.
