Environmental Assessment Bulletin
The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.
UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:
Labrador West Campground and Cottages (Reg. 1766)
Proponent: Coreen Paul
The proponent proposes to develop a tourism business which will include the construction of rental cottages, camping /tenting areas, a café, walking trails and a boat dock. A one kilometre access road will also be constructed to the site. The tourism business will be located in Labrador West, approximately 28 kilometres east of Labrador City. The cottages and campground will operate year-round to serve both winter and summer tourists. Development of the facility will occur in phases with construction proposed to begin in the summer 2015.
The undertaking was registered on October 2, 2014; the deadline for public comments is November 7, 2014; and the minister’s decision is due by November 15, 2014.
Southern Labrador Waste Disposal Facility
Proponent: Labrador Straits Waste Disposal Inc. (Reg. 1765)
Labrador Straits Waste Disposal Inc. proposes to establish a new regional landfill for the southern Labrador waste sub-region, to serve approximately 4,200 residents. The proposed landfill will be located on the west side of the Trans Labrador Highway approximately 2.5 kilometres south of St. Lewis Inlet. A 300-metre access road will connect the site to the Trans Labrador Highway. An area approximately 240 metres by 250 metres will be cleared and fenced to accommodate the landfill, which will be approximately three hectares in size. The facility is expected to begin operation in late 2015 and will be designed to operate for a minimum of 50 years.

Bear Creek Recreational Facility RV Park and Camping (Reg. 1764)
Proponent: Cooney Holdings Ltd.
The proponent has submitted a proposal to develop a 30-acre recreational facility off Route 310, in the eastern region of the Town of Sandringham, close to Bear Cave Pond, Jay Pond and Fachett Pond. The facility will include 50 designated RV campsites equipped with water, sewer and electrical services and an additional 12 tent sites with no services. The park will feature a playground area, an administration and services building with shower, laundry and bathroom facilities and a storage building for maintenance equipment. Construction is planned to begin in the spring of 2015, with the operational date anticipated to be within 12 months of commencing construction.
