Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Ocean Pond Cottage Lot Development
Proponent: Edinburgh Group Limited
                   (Reg. 1760)

The proponent proposes to develop 110 recreational cottage lots in the Ocean Pond area, approximately six kilometres east of the Town of Whitbourne, Avalon Peninsula. Access to the cottage lots will include construction of a 3.7 kilometre road which will be an extension of the existing Ocean Pond cottage road off the Trans Canada Highway. The development encompasses an area of 48.6 hectares plus 4.7 hectares for the road and will be a combination of waterfront and non-waterfront lots. Construction of the road is planned to be completed by fall 2014.

The undertaking was registered on July 11, 2014; the deadline for public comments is August 15, 2014; and the minister’s decision is due August 25, 2014.

Buchans Barite Harvesting and Processing Operations
Proponent: Barite Mud Services Inc.
                   (Reg. 1758)

Noel’s Pond Bypass Road – Route 460                    (Reg. 1757)
Proponent: Department of Transportation and Works

  • Transportation and Works is required to prepare and submit an Environmental Protection Plan to be approved by the Minister of Environment and Conservation prior to the commencement of construction.
  • Transportation and Works must consult with the International Appalachian Trail Newfoundland and Labrador (IATNL) regarding the existing hiking trail and relocation/mitigation options.
