The Honourable Joan Shea, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Grand Falls-Windsor Cranberry Farm Extension
Proponent: Newhook’s Cranberry Farm Inc.                (Reg. 1756)

The proponent submitted a proposal to extend an existing cranberry farm north of Grand Falls-Windsor near Ivany’s Access Road. The extension will be 38 hectares in size and will diversify the farm by the production of blueberries, partridgeberries and sea buckthorn berries for local and export markets. The work will be carried out over five years with a total of 12 hectares of berry fields being developed. There is an existing access road with approximately 200 metres of additional access roads to be constructed. The construction of the project is expected to begin in September 2014.

The undertaking was registered on May 6, 2014; the deadline for public comments is June 11, 2014; and the minister’s decision is due by June 20, 2014.
