UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Proponent: Lester Farms Inc.

The proponent proposes to construct and operate an aquaponics facility at Pearltown Road in St. John’s whereby Tilapia fish will be raised onsite and the effluent water will be used to grow vegetables. The project will test the feasibility of commercial aquaponics production under the Newfoundland climate with the aim to market both the greenhouse produce and fish. The facility will include the construction of a pre-engineered wooden header house and pre-engineered greenhouse. Construction of the facility and assembly of the aquaponics system is expected to take approximately five months to complete.

The undertaking was registered on February 19, 2014; the deadline for public comments is March 28, 2014; and the Minister’s decision is due April 5, 2014.

ENVIRONMENTAL PREVIEW REPORT SUBMITTED:

Big Triangle Pond Mineral Exploration Access Road                 (Reg 1725)
Proponent: Eagleridge International Ltd.

The proponent has submitted an Environmental Preview Report (EPR) for the above undertaking. The EPR was required to provide additional information including, but not limited to, a complete description of the planned mineral exploration activities and justification for the construction of the proposed road to carry out those activities. Guidelines for the preparation of the EPR were issued to the proponent on January 23, 2014. Public comments regarding the EPR are welcome and must be received no later than March 28, 2014. The document can be viewed on the department’s website indicated below. The Minister will decide the acceptability of the EPR and a decision is due by April 7, 2014.
