Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Joan Shea, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Cliffs Resources Emulsion Plant                                            (Reg. 1738)
Proponent: Dyno Nobel Canada Inc.

The undertaking consists of the construction of a modular emulsion manufacturing plant near the Bloom Lake Mine site in western Labrador to supply Cliffs Mines (Wabush Mine, Bloom Lake Mine) and other customers with blasting agent emulsion for mining purposes. In addition to the manufacturing plant, there will be construction of a new rail section and new access roads for the emulsion plant. Construction is scheduled to commence in May 2014.

The undertaking was registered on January 27, 2014; the deadline for public comments is March 4, 2014; and the minister’s decision is due by March 13, 2014.
