Media Advisory: Minister Leading Canadian Delegation at International Education Conference

The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, is leading the Canadian delegation at the 2014 UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development. The conference is taking place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, November 9-12.

As head of the Canadian delegation, Minister Sullivan is representing the provinces and territories of Canada at a ministerial roundtable today (Monday, November 10).

The roundtable will bring together international ministers and other representatives to discuss key issues and identify initiatives for development with respect to education for sustainable development.

Facilitated by the Council of Ministers of Education Canada, Minister Sullivan will also lead a workshop on Wednesday, November 12, discussing education for sustainable development in the post-2015 era and how to make education policies that address the social, environmental and economic opportunities of the 21st century.

Organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the theme of the conference is Learning Today for a Sustainable Future. Approximately 1,000 participants from around the world are expected to attend the conference and will celebrate the achievements in sustainable education over the past decade and set the education agenda for the future of sustainable development.
