Media Advisory: Minister to Participate in Student Leadership Conference
The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, will be at Cannon Richards Memorial Academy in Flower’s Cove, tomorrow evening (Thursday, October 23) to join students from throughout Newfoundland and Labrador at the launch of the annual Provincial Student Leadership Conference. The theme of this year’s conference is Rootspiration!...Let Your Roots Be Your Inspiration. The event begins at 6:30 p.m.
“The students participating in the Student Leadership Conference are leaders in their communities and schools and are inspirational role models for their fellow students. These are also the young men and women who will one day lead our province. The new Department of Education and Early Childhood Development was created to provide a continuum of learning for our future leaders from infancy through to high school. I look forward to meeting with these students and experiencing the energy and enthusiasm displayed at the leadership conference.”
- The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development
The Provincial Government has provided financial and other support, through the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and the Office of Public Engagement, to help offset the cost of conference activities. More than 300 students and teachers are participating in the event.
“With young people making incredible contributions to our province, it is important for us to gather their perspectives and involve them in decision-making. Through these interactive Student Leadership Conference sessions, staff at the Office of Public Engagement will help young women and men explore ideas about volunteerism and career planning and support discussions that will empower them as community leaders.”
- The Honourable Steve Kent, Minister of Health and Community Services and Minister Responsible for the Office of Public Engagement
