Improving Community School Infrastructure

Tender Awarded for New Windows at École Notre-Dame du Cap

Whitestone Developments Inc. of Stephenville has been awarded a tender, valued at $109,240, to replace the windows at École Notre-Dame du Cap in Cape St. George on the Port au Port Peninsula.

“With this investment, over $533,000 has been allocated to upgrade École Notre-Dame du Cap in recent years, including roofing, electrical upgrades and other renovations. This project is part of a $19.2 million school repairs and maintenance program, approved in Budget 2014, and reflects the Provincial Government’s commitment to ensuring that schools throughout the province continue to be safe and comfortable learning environments.”

Since 2004, almost $4.2 million has been allocated for school infrastructure in the Port au Port district, including:

  • Over $888,000 for interior upgrades to École Saint-Anne in Mainland;
  • Over $601,000 for roofing and other upgrades to Piccadilly Central High;
  • Over $527,000 for exterior upgrades to Our Lady of the Cape in De Grau;
  • Over $453,000 for roofing and other upgrades at Stephenville High;
  • Over $221,000 for exterior upgrades to Stephenville Primary;
  • Close to $277,000 for roofing and windows at Lourdes Elementary;
  • Over $256,000 for roofing and other upgrades to Stephenville Elementary; and
  • Over $245,000 for windows at St. Thomas Aquinas in Port au Port East.

More than $681 million has been allocated for K-12 infrastructure since 2004. Fourteen new schools have been constructed, eight more are in various stages of planning or construction, 27 major extensions and renovation projects have been completed, and 10 more are underway.
