Media Advisory: Minister to Meet with Education Counterparts

The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Education, is joining provincial and territorial education ministers from across Canada for the 103rd meeting of the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC), being held in Charlottetown, P.E.I., beginning today (Monday, July 7) and concluding on July 9.

Discussions will focus on strategies to improve student achievement, address Aboriginal education issues, support teaching excellence, and more. Ministers will also be meeting with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada to discuss the ongoing impact of Aboriginal residential schools, and release plans for the 5th International Summit on the Teaching Profession, to be hosted by Canada in 2015.

CMEC is an intergovernmental body composed of ministers responsible for elementary, secondary and advanced education from the provinces and territories. Through CMEC, ministers share information and undertake projects in areas of mutual interest.
