Deer Lake School Complex to Receive $786,000 in Upgrades

The Elwood School Complex in Deer Lake is getting further upgrades, following the recent awarding of two tenders totalling close to $786,000.

Vision Electrical Ltd., of Corner Brook, has been awarded a contract for $575,170 to upgrade the heating system at Elwood Elementary, while Island Roofing Co. Ltd., of Cox’s Cove, was awarded a $210,864 contract to undertake a roofing project at Elwood High School. This is in addition to interior and exterior upgrades recently carried out at both schools.

Minister King noted that these two projects bring the total approved for the Elwood School Complex in recent years to more than $2.1 million. Since 2004, more than $6.4 million has been approved for school infrastructure in the District of Humber Valley, including more than $3.8 million for major upgrades to Xavier Junior High in Deer Lake.

Budget 2014: Shared Prosperity, Fair Society, Balanced Outlook, includes over $128 million for new and ongoing K-12 infrastructure projects, including $19.2 million for priority repairs and maintenance.
