Recognizing Those Dedicated to Student Success

Minister Marks Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week

School communities across the province are once again encouraged to recognize the contributions of those who inspire and motivate thousands of students during Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week, being held February 9-15 this year.

“As a former educator, I am well aware that every school has dedicated administrators, teachers and school staff members who play a crucial role in helping students have a positive educational experience. Whether it is hosting a lunch, hanging a banner, or sending a card, there are many simple ways to thank the teachers and support staff members who work each day to nurture and help our youth reach their full potential as students and individuals. I extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to them for the important work they do.”
- The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education

Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week was initiated by the Canadian Home and School Federation in 1988 as a means to encourage parents, and the wider school community, to recognize the personal and professional contributions that teachers and school staff members make to children and their education.

“Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week reminds us of the important role that teachers, administrators, and support staff play in the lives of our children. Teachers and staff go above and beyond the call of duty to be role models, cheerleaders, confidants, judges, and counsellors, making a significant difference in shaping the lives of our students. We take this opportunity to commend the work of our province’s bus drivers, custodial staff, school secretaries, crossing guards, teachers, administrators, school district and department personnel, and others for their hard work, professionalism, and dedication to our youth and education in Newfoundland and Labrador."
- Nathan Whalen, President, Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of School Councils.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is committed to supporting important social programs, strong communities and the health and well-being of children, families and seniors.
