Public Advisory: Education Facilities to Reopen Thursday
The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education, and the Honourable
Kevin O'Brien, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills, announced today
that public K-12 schools and campuses of Memorial University and College of
the North Atlantic on the island portion of the province will reopen
tomorrow (Thursday, January 9). Students attending private schools are asked
to contact their institutions directly to determine if classes are going
ahead.
Minister Jackman noted that over the past number of days, Newfoundland and
Labrador English School District staff members have been working to rectify
some isolated issues associated with the cold temperatures and power
outages, such as frozen pipes. Those issues have been, or are in the process
of being addressed and it is anticipated all schools will be prepared to
open Thursday.
Meanwhile, the public are reminded to monitor their usual school information
sources in the morning to ensure there are no localized closures or delays.
Information related to K-12 English-language schools can be viewed at
www.nlesd.ca/. Information related to
K-12 Francophone schools is posted at
www.csfp.nl.ca/. Post-secondary students attending Memorial and College
of the North Atlantic can visit www.mun.ca/
or www.cna.nl.ca/ for further details.
Ministers Jackman and O’Brien sincerely thank students, parents/guardians,
along with K-12 and post-secondary staff, for their patience during the
power situation and wish all students every success in their studies in
2014.
