Social Programs Support Children and Families
Over $17,000 to Strengthen Family Resource Programming in Nain
To support family resource programming in Nain, the Nunatsiavut Government will receive over $17,000 to assist with the development of a family resource centre. The Honourable Paul Davis, Minister of Child, Youth and Family Services, was joined by the Nunatsiavut Government’s Minister of Health and Social Development, Patricia Kemuksigak, to make the announcement today in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
“Our government remains fully committed to supporting the healthy
development and well-being of children and their families. Today’s
announcement of over $17,000 to develop family resource programming in Nain
will help support the Nunatsiavut Government as it works towards determining
the early learning and parenting needs of families in this community.”
- The Honourable Paul Davis, Minister of Child, Youth and Family Services
The Nunatsiavut Government will use the funding to discuss with residents of Nain the development of programs for children and parents and to offer drop-in play groups. The Provincial Government invests $6.6 million annually in family resource programming throughout the province, which includes sites in Labrador such as Nain.
“The funds provided will assist Nunatsiavut Government to ensure a
community development model of program delivery is being implemented and
families have the opportunity to guide their own programs and services.
While the family resource centre primarily provides programs and services to
children and parents, Inuit value the collective and encourage the
traditional knowledge and wisdom of elders to be incorporated in all
programming. We hope to engage the whole community and develop programs and
supports to meet the needs identified.”
- Patricia Kemuksigak, Minister of Health and Social Development,
Nunatsiavut Government
The Government of Newfoundland Labrador is committed to supporting important social programs, strong communities and the health and well-being of children, families and seniors.
