Encouraging Economic Diversification and Growth

Holyrood Explores Opportunities for Emerging Ocean Sector

The Town of Holyrood will explore developing an Ocean Business Park to service the growing ocean and technology sectors with an investment of $45,000 from the Provincial Government. This investment will help the town complete a feasibility assessment to identify how to develop a business park to meet industry needs.

"Other successful projects like the Marine Institute's Holyrood Marine Base have positioned Holyrood as a strategic hub for the growing marine technology sector. This investment will help Holyrood examine opportunities in this emerging market."
- The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development

The assessment will include researching similar parks in other jurisdictions, identifying possible sites and potential park tenants, defining a vision for future development and outlining linkages with key research and industry partners such as Marine Institute and Memorial University.

"The Town of Holyrood has identified the development of an Ocean Business Park as a strategic priority. Our government is pleased to support this vision, as this project will help create new local and provincial economic opportunities in the ocean sector."
- Tom Hedderson, MHA for Harbour Main

Through the Regional Development Fund, the Department of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development provides support to organizations by way of non-repayable contributions for projects aimed at supporting economic development, innovation and capacity building in all regions of the province.
