Advancing Regional Tourism Opportunities

Provincial Government Funding Supports Clarenville Tourism Sector

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is investing $60,000 in infrastructure at White Hills Resort in Clarenville, as the ski resort partners with the Newfoundland and Labrador Snowmobile Federation to enhance winter tourism opportunities in the region.

"The Town of Clarenville and tourism operators and associations in the area are working together to ensure that Clarenville becomes a viable east coast winter tourism destination. As a government, we encourage this type of cooperative approach to tourism, and we are pleased to support the efforts of these organizations."
- The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development

With this investment, the Alpine Development Alliance Corporation will construct a storage facility for the Newfoundland and Labrador Snowmobile Federation at the ski resort. This will allow the federation to store a trail groomer at the location. This partnership will benefit both groups as snowmobile trails in the area expand, including the construction of a trail from the town to the resort. As well, having groomers for the resort and the federation under one roof will ease maintenance and upkeep efforts.

"Supporting partnerships in the tourism sector will help maintain our region as a prime location for winter visitors. As we enhance our skiing and snowmobiling opportunities, more visitors will arrive for extended stays, taking advantage of all the winter activities this region has to offer."
- The Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Finance and MHA for Trinity North

Through the Regional Development Fund, the Department of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development provides funding to organizations by way of non-repayable contributions for projects aimed at supporting economic development, innovation and capacity building in all regions of the province.
