Provincial Government Providing Employment Supports to Employees of Corner Brook Call Centre

Officials with the Department of Advanced Education and Skills will meet next week with Sykes Enterprises and the City of Corner Brook to offer employment supports and services to 94 employees affected by the recently announced closure of the company’s contact centre.

“We are sensitive to the challenges and concerns of those affected and we will work with Sykes Enterprises, the Department of Innovation, Business and Rural Development and the City of Corner Brook to offer employment supports and services. We have dedicated staff resources in our Corner Brook office to assist displaced workers in seeking retraining or new employment opportunities.”
- The Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills

The Department of Advanced Education and Skills has begun an employee and skills assessment inventory of impacted workers which will help match employees needs to the services offered through the department. The data will be used to work with educational and training institutions in the region for retraining opportunities, to identify new employers and tailor a job fair for displaced workers. Information sessions and one-on-one employment services will be provided. The Department of Innovation, Business and Rural Development will provide support and resources during this transition time.

“We understand this is a challenging time for the employees impacted by this closure and we will work with the company to offer additional work placement services to those affected. The Provincial Government will assist employees and stakeholders to identify economic development and job diversification opportunities in the region, supported by our robust suite of services for skills development and employment matching programs.” ,br/>- The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Innovation, Business and Rural Development
